Jean Childs Young

Jean Childs Young built early childhood curriculum in Atlanta Public Schools and wrote "Bridging the Gap" (1970) for parents to better understand child development and support their learning at home.

Young helped launch Atlanta Junior College (now Atlanta Metropolitan College). She backed Dream Jamboree, SciTrek, and APEX Museum growth. Her legacy lives on through awards, scholarships, and a middle school named after her.

Jean Childs Young helped Atlanta become what it is today through education and helping the youth. She improved schools, created pathways to college, and helped celebrate and teach Black history. She supported Atlanta's Olympics with education. Her impact is seen in many scholarships, awards, and a southwest Atlanta middle school named after her. She was also the wife of former civil rights leader and Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young.
