Carolyn D. Yancey
Carolyn Dunbar Yancey graduated with a degree in education and social work and started her career as a public school teacher. She was featured in a Southern Belle calendar for her work in teaching.
Yancey was a member of many important groups like the NAACP and League of Women Voters, and held leadership positions in groups like the Wesley Community Center and Spelman College.
She was elected and served on the Atlanta Board of Education for 16 years. She was also appointed as the first African American woman to the Georgia University System Board of Regents.
