Annie L. McPheeters

Annie L. McPheeters was one of the first African American librarians in Atlanta. She moved to the city to attend Clark Atlanta University and dedicated her career to increasing literacy and convenient access to books and historical information.

McPheeters started special programs to increase literacy and library use in the Black community. She became the first African American reference librarian at Georgia State College and worked with Black advocacy groups to help end segregation in Atlanta public libraries.
