Alonzo Herndon
Alonzo Herndon rose from enslavement to become one of the wealthiest Black entrepreneurs in the United States. He founded the Atlanta Life Insurance Company, which provided financial security to Black families at a time when most white-owned companies refused to serve them. Beyond business success, Herndon invested in his community, creating jobs and supporting Black economic independence. His life story embodies resilience, innovation, and empowerment.
